WE WILL STRENGTHEN FELLOWSHIP, BUT WON’T ALLOW TREACHERY
Making a speech during his visit to Corlu Branch of the Turkish War Veterans Association in Tekirdag, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis pointed out the resolution process.
Stating that they should join hands against those who wanted to prevent and put obstacles to the resolution process, Bagis said: “Our differences do not weaken us, but do strengthen us. Fellowship breaks up no country, rather fellowship strengthens a country. That’s why; we will strengthen fellowship and won’t allow treachery”. Bagis also indicated that the resolution process was not a bargain but a course which would ensure that each citizen was treated equally before the State as provided for in the Constitution. Mentioning that the resolution process intended to take steps in order to solve the problems of any citizen, Bagis stated that they would never be a part of something which might make the martyrs turn in their graves or disappoint the veterans.
Bagis noted that Turkey felt great pains and had an economic loss of over 300 billion dollars because of terrorism and said: “We could have used this money better. We could have constructed 150 bosphorus bridges or perhaps 300 airports and highways of more than 600 kilometres long. Then, this country could really have a boom. We hope that we will get rid of terrorism. However, we have conditions: there will be no arms and we will hear the voices of the minds, not of the guns. Let the guns stop and express opinions. If someone has an opinion, let him express himself in a democratic atmosphere”.
Indicating that some circles had tried to put obstacles to the resolution process, Bagis said: “Those who get unearned incomes on terrorism want to put obstacles to the resolution process. Some people are losing money since they have engaged in drug or human trafficking using terrorism for years. Some are losing their political influence since they have exploited this nation. They have acquired political charm by pitting brother against brother. We are taking the necessary steps in this county all together, God willing”.
