TURKISH DIASPORA WANTS PEACE
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech at “Europe and the Balkans” session held in Istanbul within the framework of The World Turkish Entrepreneurs Congress.
In his speech Bagis indicated that Turkish Diaspora would continue to sow the seeds of peace around the world just as its country did and added:
“The EU accession process is the most important process in terms of creating the Turkish Diaspora and strengthening it. Without the EU process, it would be very hard to talk of a Turkish Diaspora. The EU process is our greatest lobby power also. As long as we adhere to the process, the world’s belief in our advanced democracy strengthens too. Thus our determination for advanced democracy gives self-confidence to our people living in Europe.”
Our people living in Europe are standing upon their rights and are getting more decisive in the elections. Today, ministers and even leaders of political parties, parliament members of Turkish origin are advocating us in the parliaments of those countries. The fact that our people are going to court regarding the visa issue is a good indicator of their self confidence. We are taking this normally as we see our businessmen, sportsmen and artists achieving great success around the world. Now, the so-called Armenian genocide bills aren’t blocked by us, but by the politicians of those countries, which put forward the bill. People in the European universities are standing in silence for the founding leader of Turkey, Ataturk.”
Mentioning the fact that prejudice was the most important obstacle in Turkey’s EU process, Bagis said reaching the minds and hearts of people was the only way to overcome those obstacles and that the actual potential of Turkish diaspora should be stimulated to protect the interest of our country.
