TURKEY’S 2020 OLYMPIAD MEMBERSHIP

Evaluating Turkey’s 2020 Olympiad membership, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said: “Istanbul stood as a window that leads to enlightenment after the city had been conquered. Today, Istanbul is again a member to be that window. I believe that Istanbul will go through  one more conquest and prove that it is a city that deserves most to hold the Olympiads”.

Answering the questions of the members of the press related to the agenda, Bagis stated that a historical day would be gone through for Istanbul and Turkey in the coming periods. Bagis said that they wanted Turkey to increase its existing level through organizing the Olympiads.

Pointing out to the fact that, as it happened before, there were people who want to grab the rights of Turkey, Minister Bagis said the following:

“The truth can not be hidden. Those who think that they could overshadow Istanbul with the Gezi Park incidents, only overshadowed their consciences. One of the blameworthies aimed at violating the prestige of Turkey were the unreal letters submitted to the Olympiad Committee. Those who couldn’t get their shares from the tolerance of Istanbul and the culture of living together are so miserable as to denigrate this city.We should suspect about the sincerity and good will of those who carry out inaccurate propaganda.”

Stating that those who work for the benefit of Gezi Park incidents and its derivatives do not have the right to say even a word for Turkey’s Olympiad membership, Bagis said: “This nation wants from CHP to continue its role of “the standing man” and “the non-speaking man”.
