TURKEY HAS A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN THE FIELD OF ENERGY

Participating to the gala dinner of the European Energy Summit organised by the Economist group at Swissôtel, Istanbul, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech and said that they were working hard in order to make Turkey one of the leading countries of the world in the field of energy just like in every field.

Minister Bagis stated that remedies for common problems were sought during these kinds of meetings; Bagis continued his speech by saying that 1.5 billions of consumers could be reached over Turkey, and prosperity and economic potential of this mass of consumers were continuously increasing.

Underlining Turkey’s significant strategic position, Minister Bagis said, “We have been carrying out negotiations and working on the chapters together with the European Union. One of these chapters is Energy. 75% of the EU’s energy requirement is supplied from the south or east of Turkey”. Minister Bagis stated that a country who wants to deliver energy should receive the support of Turkey.

Bagis said, “Unfortunately we cannot open the Chapter on Energy to the negotiations” and added that nobody could gain a favour by means of sabotaging the opening of the Chapter on Energy to negotiations.
