TURKEY DEPLORES THE VIOLENCE IN EGYPT

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis commented on the recent events in Egypt in his press statement.
    Bagis indicated the following:
“Yesterday, we again heard of heart-breaking news from Egypt. A fire broke out from the fraternal country of Turkey, from the other side of the Mediterranean.
We strongly condemn those who were engaged in such an attack like the one in Adeviyye, which filled us with grief and sorrow in Ramadan. Turkey deplores this violence, banding together with its government and people. Even if Turkey is on its own to that end, it will deplore this event.
Under no circumstances can loosing of bullets to the innocent people who make unarmed and peaceful demonstrations for weeks be based on a belief. These outrageous and heinous attacks can result from madness and a flush of fear.
Snipers’ aiming guns at innocent people from the roofs of buildings, soldiers’ showing screams of joy after the massacre, burning and killing innocent people all shockingly prove that there is nothing close to humane practice in Egypt.
Those who desire to rule Egypt are too miserable and poor to consider that the way to the nation’s heart is thorough the bullet holes on chests of people. Every fired bullet will increase the supports of Egyptians for democracy and for Mr Muhammed Mursi.
It should be seen as a sign of a state of emergency in itself that the military coup regime declared a state of emergency across Egypt. Turkey is a country that underwent military coup and state of emergency in history; however it is a powerful and effective model on how to deal with those days successfully. The building blocks of this model are stability, democracy, justice and struggle for development.
As always, Turkey deplores mercilessness and cruelty, and it is and will be on the side of people who suffer from cruelty. No one should be doubtful. Turkey’s approach about Egypt issue is as it should be.
Some questioning Turkey’s approach is still keeping silent about the violence today; this is thought-provoking.
International organizations, in particular the United Nations and the European Union, should accept the existing violence and take necessary steps to terminate this violence.
Since yesterday, we have discussed this issue on the phone with President of the European Parliament Mr. Schulz, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle and other countries’ ministers and members of the European Parliament
We asked our addressee in the EU to deplore on-going mercilessness and cruelty in Egypt and invited them to help bring democracy to Egypt. We told them that they should deliver a message that expresses their supports to Egyptian people who struggle for freedom and democracy and their strong condemnation about the violence of the military coup regime.
Turkey settles its position according to human rights and justice. Everybody should remember that the Nile River has a retentive memory. Egypt had been ruled by many pharaohs but it was able to deal with them. Governments and governors come and go but the one who remains forever is the people of those governments.
History never forgives persecutors who armed against his own people and will never in future.
Muhammed Mursi and other Ihvan Leaders should be released and the government should be formed on the basis of its people’s will. Nobody should expect a change in Turkey’s attitude until these conditions are fulfilled.
Turkey supports Egyptian people and democracy in Egypt because of conscience and fairness, it is not about policy.
Our brothers asking for democracy in the squares should not take actions that harm their own case.
Greedy war merchants who want to legitimise their violence by starting civil war should not be given that opportunity.
As Hasan El Benna stated “Nothing will be able to stop a nation which prefer death to life”
Even if the colour of the Nile water turned to red because of blood and pyramids were torn down; Egyptian people would not give up their reasonable case. Our brothers’ way is the right way. We wish patience and perseverance to Egyptian people on their struggle for freedom and democracy.
