TURKEY BECOMES A COUNTRY OF DISTINCTION BOTH IN EASTERN AND WESTERN WORLD

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attended the 4. Ordinary Congress of AK Party Besiktas District Organization held in İstanbul. In his speech he delivered there Bagis said that Turkey had become a country of distinction both in the eastern and western world.

Bagis stated that Turkey's unemployment rate was the best in Europe and Turkey had a growing economy with growth rates averaging 8% for the last five years while European average was 1,5%. He also mentioned that whatever the agenda items concerning foreign policy were no decisions, in any part of the world, were taken without consulting Turkey. Bagis continued as follows:

“Who achieved these? You did! You followed a leader about whom some people said that he wouldn’t even be a village headman anymore. And you said that 'there were no unsolvable problems in Turkey' and thank God, you solved those problems one by one. On the one hand Turkey gained domestic power and on the other hand you made every individual in this country feel equal in terms of constitutional citizenship rights. You established a governmental mechanism which embraces all citizens without discriminating among Alewites and Sunnis; Turks, Kurds, Lazs and Circassians or between military and civilian populations, men and women and also between the citizens who voted for AK Party and who did not.”

Expressing that there were still lots of things to do, Bagis said: “People groaning bitterly in Syria today, hope tomorrow will be better with the support of AK Party. There are millions or even billions of people all around the world, for instance in Kosovo, Pakistan, Bosnia, Somalia, Sudan and Afghanistan who set their hopes on AK Party today. So we don’t have the right to be indolent and to fall out with each other.”
