THOSE WHO DO NOT APPRECIATE DEMOCRACY CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE POINT TURKEY ARRIVED AT
In his speech at the Esenyurt district congress of the Justice and Development Party, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that the AK Party took its power from the nation and it had not abandoned the nation’s values. He also criticized the speech of the leader of CHP, Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
Kilicdaroglu said: “Turkey is a closed prison for some and an open prison for the others. I cannot accept this.” Regarding these words of Kilicdaroglu, Bagis stated:
“It is democracy that cannot be accepted by Mr Kilicdaroglu, and by the CHP mentality which is condemned to being opposition for ever after being tried by the conscience of the nation. You accepted the prisonment because of reading a poem, you accepted people being tortured because of their thoughts, clothes or life styles. Now, the values of the state are competent and also are in power. You cannot accept this. Your dilemma is this. The ones who do not appreciate democracy cannot understand the point Turkey arrived at.”
Mentioning also the decision of the Mersin Provincial Council, Bagis said:
'' Djemevi has been accepted as a worship and religious centre and Mersin Municipality wanted to show it as being first in Turkey. However, it was firstly done by Esenyurt municipality in 2010. As a part of my duty I visit Brussels often and there European parliamentarians ask me questions about the different religious groups in Turkey. Thank God that I can proudly mention Esenyurt while talking about this issue in Brussels. For the first time in the history of our Republic, a Prime Minister has embraced the Roma citizens. For the first time our Prime Minister allowed information on Alawism to be in course books. After 88 years, for the first time, the way to carry out religious ceremonies in Sumela Monastery by our Orthodox citizens was cleared. Also, today our Armenian citizens can pray in Van Akdamar Church for the solidarity and unity of our country. Like these, now we have a municipality leaning towards a centre for our Alewi citizens.”
