“THE ECLIPSE OF REASON” IN THE EU WILL CERTAINLY PASS

Speaking in the programme named “Wilco ile Pazar Pazar AB” in the SkyTürk 360 TV Channel, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis stated that “the eclipse of reason” in the EU would certainly pass.

Stating that the prejudices were the largest obstacles in front of Turkey’s EU accession process, Bagis said: “In order to get rid of these prejudices, we should keep on explaining ourselves to the others persistently. A Europe without Turkey would remain weird. The EU is a continental peace project. The membership of Turkey would make this project a global one. I believe that, sooner or later, Turkey will become a member to the EU.

Bagis also said: “We are sharing a common fate with the EU because the Turkish people are a nation which has been making progress towards the west for the last one thousand years.” Stating that in terms of the growth rate Turkey was far beyond the EU, Bagis reminded that Turkey grew 8% while EU grew 1.5% last year. Bagis also emphasized that the OECD rates showed that Turkey would be the second largest economy in Europe in 2050.

Underlining that Turkey had carried out serious reforms, Bagis said considering the reforms made en route to the EU during the past year, the Turkish government was the most reformist government in Europe. Bagis also added, sooner or later, ‘the eclipse of reason’ in the EU would certainly pass.
