PLATFORM FOR GLOBAL CHALLENGES PANEL ON ARAB SPRING AND TURKEY

Panel on Arab Spring and Turkey organized by the think tank, Platform for Global Challenges whose advisory board is headed by the Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis was held in Istanbul with the contributions of Istanbul Bilgi University.  

Being the moderator of the Panel, Bagis also delivered an opening speech on “Turkey’s Foreign Policy and Turkey –EU Relations in 2012”. In his speech Bagis stated that the World was going through a different process. He said that there were some developments to contribute the human welfare but on the other hand, problems were becoming worse.

Bagis added that in such an atmosphere, none of them did have the luxury to say ‘the change was the only constant’. He said that understanding and directing the change were very important.

Underlining that the democracy in Turkey, which made Turkey different from the other countries in the region, took its strength from the EU process, Bagis also stated that by realizing the reforms, Turkey exerted efforts to be the shining star of the region.
