JUDICIAL AND FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS FOR LAWYERS TRAINING PROJECT SIIRT
The closing ceremony of the fourth training of “Judicial and Fundamental Rights for Lawyers Training Project” supported by the British Embassy in Turkey under the scope of Reuniting Europe Programme and carried out by the Ministry for EU Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the Union of Turkey Bar Association was held in Siirt.
In his speech at the closing ceremony of the fourth training following the realization of the programs with the participation of over 250 lawyers from Konya, Erzurum and Sanlıurfa, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis stated that the work for the third judicial reform package was finalized and they started to work on the fourth judicial reform package and added that these reform packages would correct the wrong and unfair image of Turkey before the European Court of Human Rights, in particular.
Bagis said: “As a result of our hard-work, the Council of Europe to which the European Court of Human Rights is affiliated gave up regarding Turkey as a controlled country, and Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was elected as the President of Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE). Thus, the presidency was moved to the east of Vienna for the first time and a significant message was given once the wheel had been broken. As Turkey develops and becomes more transparent, our potential expands to different areas. As the Turkish democracy has developed and our economic growth rate has reached 8%, Turkey inspired the neighbouring countries in every respect.”
In his speech, emphasizing that jurisdiction was one of the three powers within democracies, Bagis pointed to the importance of the fact that jurisdiction could only renew itself with such trainings considering the unchangeable aspect of jurisdiction by the citizens in the polls.
Indicating that when the jurisdiction became introverted in the past, this caused Turkey to be dragged into a dark period, Bagis stated that Siirt played an important role both in the past and today on the chapter of Judicial and Fundamental Rights.
Bagis later visited Siirt Governorate, Siirt Municipality, AK Party Siirt Provincial Chairmanship and Siirt University.
