GREEK CYPRIOT CABINET QUITS
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis expressed that Turkey hoped the negotiations to be concluded successfully with the establishment of a single administration created by two founding states based on the political equality of two communities.
Minister Bagis received Rifat Hisarciklioglu, the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) at the Ministry for EU Affairs in Ankara. Upon a question of a journalist on the resignation of Greek Cypriot cabinet, Minister Bagis recalled the incidents during a basketball game between the teams of Greek Cypriot APOEL and Turkish Karsiyaka, and said the following:
“I had mentioned then that a mentality which could not stop 2 thousand fanatics attacking our 5 players, when Southern Greek Cypriot Administration hosted our basketball team, cannot be a state. Just last week, Mr. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized that there was no state as such. There are only Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Southern Greek Cypriot Administration. We hope the negotiations to be concluded successfully and a single administration created by two founding states based on the political equality of two communities takes up the position. It will be nice if it can happen; however, if not, it will be to the detriment of whole island and Turkey will keep making progress. “
During his meeting with Mr.Hisarciklioglu, Minister Bagis stated that they realized common projects with TOBB in Turkey and said that they would pay significant visits to the capitals of the EU, especially to Brussels in the next term.
