“GERMANY TRAIN” DEPARTS AFTER 50 YEARS
The “Germany train” having left Sirkeci Station for Munich in 1961 for the first time within the scope of labor force exchange agreement between Turkey and Germany, departed again after 50 years under a project of TRT Turk with a ceremony attended by Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis and Speaker of the Parliament Cemil Cicek.
Delivering a speech at the farewell ceremony at Sirkeci Station in Istanbul, Minister for EU Affairs Bagis stated that great efforts of Turkish citizens who immigrated to Germany 50 years ago had remarkably contributed to both economic welfare achieved in Germany and in Turkey.
Minister Bagis indicated that Turkey, having no assertion regarding economic growth then, has now showed the highest growth rate in Europe and the second highest growth rate in the world.
Stating that many things had changed in 50 years, Bagis said “Turkey is not the same country with that of 50 years ago, now it is one of the leading actors in the world with its self-confidence, awareness and decisiveness. I hope we catch a better point day by day. We will go on contributing to world peace with the cooperation and collaboration of our fellows around the world.”
