EU REGISTRATION FOR TRADITIONAL TURKISH DESSERT “ANTEP BAKLAVASI”
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis commented on the application regarding the registration of the traditional Turkish dessert, Antep Baklavasi, by the EU and said that the EU took the first step for the registration of baklava to be associated with Gaziantep and that other required steps will be taken as well.
Answering the questions of the press members on the agenda at Ortaköy Office of the Ministry, Bagis reminded that Gaziantep Chamber of Industry applied for the registration of “Antep Baklavasi” four years before and added, "As the Ministry for EU Affairs, we have also followed this application. Right now, the EU took the first step for the registration of baklava to be associated with Gaziantep. At the moment they are waiting for possible objections. There will certainly be demands about this issue. We are committed and determined in this respect, as well. Thus, we will take the necessary steps."
Bagis called for the administrators of 81 provinces to stake a claim of the products in their region and said: "We will also work for having the products of other regions of Turkey registered. We will have to work together for the registration of Afyon's clotted cream, Diyarbakir's traditional dessert “Kadayif”, Sariyer's pastry, Kanlica's yoghurt, Beykoz's glassware, Kayseri's cured spiced beef, “Pastirma” and Malatya's apricot. Therefore, as the Ministry for EU Affairs, we are ready to support every single province which has confidence in their products, for the registration applications."
