ELECTED LOCAL LEADERS WILL ALSO PARTICIPATE IN THE EU PROCESS
Sending letters and informative brochures on the EU process to 50 thousand elected local leaders all over Turkey, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis gave information about the process and wanted their support.
In his press release at the Yenisehir Post Office, Bagis said "The EU process is our common ground in this country. It is a process that enables Turkey to make new transformations in every field."
"All the citizens of this country will be EU citizens with Turkey's accession" said Bagis and added "Level of democracy is raised; our drinking water and the air we expire is cleaner; high standards are implemented in agriculture; and the living standard of all citizens is raised."
Bagis said "The village head men, who are elected as the leaders of the society and who have gained confidence of every district and every village should participate in this process to enable the public better understand this crucial process."
"Dear Village Headmen, We would like to contact you and establish a sincere tie of communication. We may have different views, but we are together for Turkey…" said Egemen Bagis in his letter and wanted support and contribution of the village headmen in standing up for Turkey's EU process in abroad.
The following are stated in the letter:
"We should remember that democracy starts at the local level… And the EU process also progresses at the local level… We will reinforce these two principles with the village headmen. Therefore, we expect your suggestions on what to do to understand, explain and get further in the EU process. We attach great importance to exchanging views with you as Non-Governmental Society Leaders in addition to your public service."
