EGYPT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR WEST TO CLEAN UP BLOTS IN ITS HISTORY OF DEMOCRACY
Evaluating the situation in Egypt with press members in Ankara, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis, said, “It is impossible for Turkey, kneeled down by crises, oppressions and gangs a decade ago, to be indifferent to its neighbors anymore.”
Bagis expressed his deep sorrow over the turmoil in Adeviyye and Nahda in Egypt, and said that Turkey was accused of leaving Egypt alone. Underlining that Turkey would never give up protecting and advocating the rights, Minister Bagis stated that it was impossible for Turkey, kneeled down by crises, oppressions and gangs a decade ago, to be indifferent to its neighbors anymore. Moreover, he pointed out the need to increase the pressure on the military junta government, and underlined the intense diplomacy traffic they were engaged in. Bagis also added:
“How can we face our next generations if we go on living as if there was nothing going on in Egypt while our brothers are bleeding? How can we protect the heritage of our ancestors? The God parted the seas for us before; and he can do this again for sure. Our duty is to strike the rod as Moses did. Thus, in the past few days we passed through intense phone diplomacy. We shared our thoughts on Egypt with the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz; the Member of European Commission, Štefan Füle and ministers of some other countries. Thank God that Turkey began to have the fruits of its efforts. Following the condemnation of US President Barack Obama, it is a very positive step that France and England called the United Nations Security Council for an urgent meeting. This process is an opportunity for the West to clean up the blots in its history of democracy. You either make use of this opportunity by awaking your resting conscience or you have to live with this shame forever.”
Underlining the full support from Turkey to Egypt, Minister Bagis indicated that he expected the Islamic World to give full support, as well. Minister Bagis stated that Turkey always stands by the oppressed people and he added: “Today all the oppressed people hold Turkish Flag in their hands and love Turkey from the bottom of their hearts. Only a decade ago, Turkey was called as the sick man and no one would like to be in its place. But today there are countries that exert every effort to be like Turkey. So, this is what we call as a “radical change”.
