EGEMEN BAGIS WAS PRESENTED WITH THE "POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR" AWARD

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis was presented with the "Politician of the Year" award, at the Ninth Award Ceremony of the Association of European Journalists held at the Istanbul Conrad Hotel.

During the opening speech of the ceremony, indicating that he hoped journalists in Turkey would achieve EU standards in every way, Bagis said "We wish for our journalist and managers to have the same salaries as their counterparts in the Europe and have trade union rights. We also hope that they become sensitive to media ethics to the same extent as those in Europe. Together, we have to ensure these in Turkey."

Stating that he considered the EU process as being very important since it would increase standards in Turkey in all areas, Bagis, said that attaining those standards were more significant than the issue of finally becoming an EU member.
