Egemen Bağış urges world leaders to act It is not too late to put words into deeds

Egemen Bağışwrote an article for the Washington Post about the Syrian crisis ongoing in our region.  Criticizing the international institutions for remaining silent in the face of this tragedy, Egemen Bağış cried out that “it is not too late to put words into deeds”.

If world leaders keep failing to act regarding what is happening in Syria and thousands of people keep getting wounded and die each day,the responsibility of this bloodshed will also be on them.

The diplomatic negotiations that their presidents, prime ministers, foreign ministers and senior military officials attended to find a solution to the Syrian crisis have failed to produce global alliance to be built on a formal strategythat would prevent the barbarian and brutal attacks that threaten the civilians.

Millions of asylum seekers took refuge in Turkey, Jordan and Europe. More than ten thousands of others are desperately trying to escape from Syria to save their lives. On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin supports Bashar Assad who commits a war crime.

But the US, the UN, the EU and other institutions stand aside despite the fact that thousands of people are in life-threatening situation. Turkey was patient; accepting millions of refugees, it delivered humanitarian aid to both sides of the border. This does not solve the problem. Others must stand up and show themselves, they must reconsider to open up a safe zone for Syrians within country’s borders and establish a no-fly zone. A counter operation must be held against terrorist organizations that are strengthened by the support of power-hungry leaders.  It is not too late to put words into action.
