EGEMEN BAGIS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR

The ceremony of the third “Most Successful People” Awards was held by the “Engelsiz Yasam” Foundation in Istanbul and the awards were distributed to the winners. 

Bagis was awarded the ''Most Successful Politician of the Year” award, but he could not attend the ceremony due to his busy schedule. However, his video speech was broadcast during the ceremony.

Bagis recalled the establishment of a coordination desk for disabled people during Prime Minister Erdogan’s term as the Mayor and he said: ''Today, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is still the greatest supporter, protector, and the benefactor of people with disabilities”.

Emphasizing that disabilities should never be seen as defects or faults and that discrimination on these grounds is a disgrace and a crime against humanity, Bagis said:

''The real disgrace and danger are the disabilities in our understanding. The real fault is a disabled approach taken by a state regarding its people. The real matters to be addressed are disabilities regarding confidence in democracy and commitment to the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people with disabilities. When the understanding and consciences of people are not disabled, all obstacles can be overcome. In fact, there have been many people with disabilities, such as Stephen Hawking, Beethoven, Franklin Roosevelt, Aşık Veysel and Cemil Meriç who have made contributions that have left mark in the history of Turkey and the World. Their disabilities did not pose any obstacles to their great works and their very important contributions.''
