EGEMEN BAGIS SENT A LETTER AND BOOKLET TO THE “WISE MEN COMMITTEE”
The Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis sent a letter to each of the members of the “wise men committee” to share his opinions regarding the settlement process, and also sent a booklet which outline the steps taken and the laws enacted by the Government in the EU reform process, as well as the current situation of the process.
Bagis also indicated that the contribution of the Wise Men Committee to Turkey’s crossing of a critical and historical threshold was “highly commendable.”
Bagis stated that ending terrorism was closely linked with the dimensions of security and freedoms and he added that it necessitated careful observance of the balance between security and freedoms. Bagis said that the EU reform process was very influential and a driving force behind the dimension of the issue related to the freedoms.
In his letter, Bagis stated the following:
“In the last eleven years, the Government demonstrated the determination to lift the obstacles to the freedoms. During both the settlement process and the achievement of the target of carrying Turkey beyond contemporary civilizations, our Government will continue to maintain this approach of careful consideration for the freedoms.
I sincerely believe that your views and constructive evaluations will guide our Government and the Turkish nation in this critical period. I sincerely feel that these will contribute to positive results regarding this critical juncture. I wish you success in your work.
Along with this letter, Egemen Bagis also sent a booklet to the members of the Wise Men Committee, which outlines the steps taken and the laws enacted by the Government in the EU reform process, as well as the current situation in the process.
The emphasis in this booklet, titled “Political Reforms and Developments in the EU Accession Process with Contribution to the National Solidarity and Brotherhood Project”, was that the National Solidarity and Brotherhood project had been launched to provide all citizens with all rights regardless of ethnic and religious origins, political views and gender.
