EGEMEN BAGIS MAKES CALL FOR TOLERANCE
Attending the iftar (fast-breaking dinner) held in İstanbul, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis made a call for 'tolerance' and said, "We hope that Ramadan will reinforce the national unity and solidarity in our country which is a land of grace and mercy."
Delivering a speech at the iftar held by Uskudar Municipality at Uskudar dock, Minister Bagis noted that the meaning of the word 'Ramadan' was 'intense scorching heat', and he continued his words as follows:
"We hope that this year's Ramadan will lead to the scorching of such evils seriously effecting our country as violence, conflict, intolerance, envy, setting brother against brother."
"May God rest the souls of our brothers who were martyrized on the first day of Ramadan, and discipline those who took our brothers' life away. May God not let those who want to set brother against brother in this country. May God lead us to live many other Ramadans in unity, solidarity, and brotherhood in this country."
