EGEMEN BAGIS' LETTER TO THE ECONOMIST
Egemen Bagis wrote a mail to the Economist about an article published on August 30th-5th September.
Bagis wrote the following:
I have read the article, ¨Davutoglu's moment¨ in Economist issue, dated August 30th-5th September.
There is an incorrect perception in the article. Although President Erdoğan's political success is accurately identified in the article, he has been inaccurately described "polarising", which causes "half the voters (to) despise him for his Sunni sectarianism".
These are in fact, quite clearly mistaken comments. President Erdoğan is is keen to embrace all ethnicities, races, religious groups, and genders not just Sunni Muslims.
He has been leading the most important historical Human rights reforms of the Turkish Republic, which have the support of the widest group of ethnicities to date. He has won 9 consecutive elections in the last 12 years and has received support and votes from Muslim, Christian, Jewish and other citizens of our country. Therefore he has not polorised but embraced his people.
I hope such misrepresentations will not mislead your readers.
