DEMOCRACY GAINS STRENGTH IN TURKEY

After watching the concert given within the framework of "We are One", which is a project of Demir Demirkan, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that the concert was very important in terms of indicating the point that Turkey reached.

Bagis watched the concert with his wife Beyhan Bagis and daughter Ecehan Bagis in Lutfi Kirdar Congress and Exhibition Centre. He said: "The most important feature of the concert is that it symbolises our unity and solidarity as equal and free citizens of the Republic of Turkey who love each other. This is what we mean by saying national unity and brotherhood."

Indicating that at the point to which Turkey has reached today democracy gained strength and individual liberties were increased, Bagis said that Turkey was progressing towards being a modern country at EU standards and reaching the level of modern civilisations which was the target identified by Ataturk.

Stating that the prominent artists of Turkey could now express their opinion on the major problems of the country and make comments on the issues which had been taboo in the past, Bagis said, "the developments concerning arts, politics and culture indicate that Turkey is on the correct path as long as we love and embrace each other."

In the project "We are One" carried out under Demir Demirkan's production, ethnic separation issue was reflected through 3 different women. The Civilisations Chorus consisting of priests, priestesses, imams who belong to different cultures and monotheistic religions and people from different occupational groups such as jewellers, teachers and students sang hymns. At the concert together with the Civilisations Chorus, Sertab Erener took stage also. Aynur and Aysenur Kolivar sang songs in different languages.
