CALL FOR ACTION: WEEK PER MONTH FOR EU LEGISLATION IN THE PARLIAMENT

Delivering a speech at the TGNA General Assembly, Bagis proposed to meet once a week or a week in a month to discuss the EU legislation.

After the General Assembly, Bagis replied the questions of the journalists, on various issues. Upon a question regarding the amendment of the Constitution, Bagis stated they expected contributions from the other parties. He continued as follows:

"We had the opportunity to have a peaceful and long discussion on the issue with Mr. Baykal in Konya. Mr. Baykal declared his support for the Law on Trade Unions; and he also promised for a study on the provisions of the Drafts of the Turkish Commercial Code and Code of Obligations. However, he is not in favour of the amendment of the Constitution.

Let all the parties attempt to prepare a Draft Constitution and see the results. Let's see the secret, explicit and open agendas of them. Let's learn ‘who is in favour of the limited freedoms, or more secularity and more democracy'. Anyone can put forward a draft manifesting Turkey as they imagine. Let's prepare a modern, civilized and contemporary Constitution. Non-governmental organisations and even individuals can claim their vision for the Constitution"

Bagis stated that 2010 would not be year of elections; therefore, the government and the opposition could discuss the EU legislation together.

Bagis said: "I want to make a call: Let's spare a day in a week or a week in a month for the EU legislation. Let's cooperate for Turkey to ramp up in 2010 in the EU process. We can discuss internal political issues in 2011". Upon a question asking whether he shared this opinion with the Speaker of the TGNA, Mehmet Ali Sahin, Bagis replied: "Yes, I did. He will think about it".

Bagis declared that Turkish Commercial Code and Code of Obligations did not have political aspects. He also said: "However, the ones speaking at the budget meetings are talking about issues other than the budget"

Bagis said: "If we really want to be a member of the EU, we should achieve all these. We should change the passports and use biometric ones. We should establish border security organizations".
