    BOTH TURKEY AND THE EU WILL BENEFIT WHEN THE NEGOTIATIONS ACCELERATE AGAIN

    The Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis welcomed Eamon Gilmore, the Irish Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, at the Ministry for EU Affairs. 

    In his speech at the joint press release which was held following the meeting, Bagis stated that they had addressed Turkey’s accession process in particular and some issues such as “Regional Policy and Coordination of Structural Instruments” Chapter, expected to be opened for negotiations soon and “Social Policy and Employment” Chapter planned to be discussed during his visit to Brussels as well as Cyprus and visas issues.

    Thanking Gilmore for his positive attitude, Bagis said: “The Irish Presidency has always been quite beneficial to the EU”.

    Moreover, Gilmore emphasized that both Turkey and the EU would benefit when the negotiations accelerated again.
