BAGIS PROVIDES INFORMATION ON CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis mentioned of the constitutional amendments in a part of his speech that he delivered in the 64th of Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission, and said "This Constitutional amendment package, under the current political conditions, is a breakthrough in our reform process which targets the very fundamental democratic and human rights elements."
Bagis declared that the amendments included in the package of constitutional revision which was accepted in TGNA and on which a referendum will be conducted were prepared in the light of the criteria, especially political criteria that Turkey took as a base in the EU process.
Stating that most of the measures in the constitutional amendment package were mentioned in the constitutional agreements of EU acquis and in Charter of Fundamental Rights also, Bagis continued as follows:
"The measurements envisaged in the constitutional amendment regarding the persons who should be protected socially for anti-discriminative purposes are mentioned in constitutional agreements of EU acquis and in Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. By taking the right of demanding protection of individuals' personal data under the guarantee of constitution; alignment to decisions of European Convention on Human Rights and European Court of Human Rights which guarantees the protection of private life and family life will be provided and it will effect various fields from fight against drugs and terrorism to international information sharing and solidarity among security forces."
