BAGIS EVALUATED RE-ELECTION OF BARROSO AS PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION

Egemen Bagis, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator stated that he welcomed the European Parliament's decision to re-elect Jose Manuel Barroso as President of the European Commission.

In a written statement he made, indicated that Barroso played a leading role in EU's determination of sound and realistic remedy policies during the last five years as well as in the current crisis affesting the EU and the world.

Noting that Barroso supported enlargement of the EU and Turkey's membership process both during his term of office as Prime Minister in his country and as the President of the European Commission, Bagis stated that they would continue to work closely with the new European Commission to be formed under the presidency of Barroso on the way to accession.
