BAGIS COMMENTED ON HUNTINGTON'S DECEASE

Commenting on the decease of US political scientist Samuel Huntington who became world-wide famous with his thesis 'The Clash of Civilizations', AK Party Vice- Chairman Egemen Bagis expressed that Turkey has made and will continue to make serious steps in getting civilizations together and there by improving the harmony of civilizations.

Bagis affirmed that Huntington has left behind theories which constrains the limits of conception and which should certainly be debated. He emphasized, however, that theories and foresights may not always reflect the reality or the history.

Egemen Bagis further said: 'we are living through history. Turkey is making the history and we will continue to make it. We have taken serious steps in transforming the clash of civilizations into the meeting- the harmony of civilizations. Turkey will carry on these steps also in the future. Turkey's initiatives on this subject gained support and interest through out the world and have world wide impact. Turkey is on the cross road of harmony and tolerance for which the world is looking and longing for. AK Party is aware of this historical duty and will continue to act in accordance of its historical consciousness.'

Bagis denoted Huntington's argument that Turkey might be an exception to the thesis of Clash of Civilizations. Egemen Bagis said: 'It is our mission to realize this exceptional case and show the world that Islam is a bright and civilized sun. The mission is Turkey's mission. History is facing now very important milestones. We are aware that we are undertaking the historical responsibility of Turkic as well as the Muslim world. For sure, we will not be ashamed of our acts in front of history.'
