AMBASSADOR BAIRD STATED THAT THE UK SUPPORTED TURKEY'S EU PROCESS
Egemen Bagis, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator participated in the reception organized in the British Embassy in Ankara in which the birthday of Elizabeth 2nd, the Queen of UK, and the Armed Forces Day of UK were celebrated.
Bagis noted that Turkey was in cooperation in many aspects with the UK, which is an ally of Turkey. Reminding that that day was also the anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, Bagis emphasized that at that period, France was struggling to manipulate and control the European policy and he added that those were merely passing fancies. Stating that those struggles remained in the past, Bagis expressed that EU was the oldest and the most far-reaching peace project of the EU.
Stating that the crowning of a great peace project such as EU would be through the integration of Turkey, Bagis said: "No one should doubt that Turkey will integrate into EU."
Nick Baird, the British Ambassador in Ankara, declared in his speech that, the relations between Turkey and UK were gradually strengthening and he added that a high level cooperation in many fields ranging from trade to fight against terror existed between the two countries. Touching upon also the relations with the EU, the Ambassador stated that UK supported Turkey's EU process.
