9 MAY EUROPEAN DAY MESSAGE FROM BAGIS

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis issued a written message on the occasion of 9 May European Day.

In his message, Bagis reminded that they were celebrating the 60th anniversary of French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman's Declaration which paved the way for European integration. Bagis said that he celebrated 9 May Europe Day and hoped that it would be beneficial for Turkey, its people and the European Union.

Emphasizing that Schuman started his declaration he delivered on 9 May 1950 by stating that "World peace cannot be safeguarded without the making of creative efforts proportionate to the dangers which threaten it", Bagis said that Schuman pointed out the need for a strong peace vision to eliminate the factors threatening peace and for a determined combat in line with this vision and that he built the European integration upon this target.
