MAY 19 COMMEMORATION OF ATATURK AND YOUTH&SPORTS DAY
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis stated that reaching a brighter future, Turkey would be "a dignified member of the European Union and the star of Eurasia" together with the energy, hard work and determination of the youth.
In the written statement he made on the May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk and Youth&Sports Day, Bagis said 19th May 1919 was the starting day of the modernization and independency movement under the leadership of Ataturk the Great Leader adding that Ataturk, by entrusting the Republic which was founded with great struggle and hardship to the youth, gave the message that the youth should be the followers of every project that would make Turkey a more democratic, prosperous and secure country
Bagis said "the EU project is the most important modernization project after the establishment of the Republic" adding that he, as the youngest minister of the cabinet, considered the EU process as the project of the youth.
Minister Bagis continued his message as follows:
"As Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says 'we see the bright future of Turkey in twinkling eyes and shining faces of our youth.' A closer integration with the European Union would bring new opportunities and open new doors to our youth and would strengthen the twinkles in their eyes and the light in their faces. We will reach a brighter future with the energy, hard work and determination of our youth and will become a dignified member of the European Union and the star of Eurasia."
Bagis stated that Ataturk had started the modernization movement with the slogan "Let us all walk together" in the Youth Anthem which has been sung by the nation for decades as the symbol of 19th May and that they would continue this movement with the slogan "No stopping, keep moving ahead".
Celebrating the Commemoration of Ataturk and Youth&Sports Day, Bagis stated that he respectfully commemorated Ataturk the great Leader, the martyred and the veterans who had entrusted the most beautiful country in the world.
