BAGIS AND DAVUTOGLU DECLARED ON THE EUROPE DAY "OUR TARGET IS FULL MEMBERSHIP TO THE EU"

Egemen Bagis, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator and Ahmet Davutoglu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, hosted a lunch for the ambassadors of the EU member states in Ankara.
Pointing out that neither Turkey was Turkey 50 years ago, nor Europe was Europe 50 years ago, Bagis said, "It is our common responsibility to be extrovert and make Europe the most important global actor because the needs of the world and the problems it encounter entail this."
Stating that Europe laid down the EU as the most important peace project throughout the history of man, Bagis said, "But, the most important crowning activity of this project would be realised when Turkey become a full member to the EU. Perhaps the most important project of the EU hereafter would be Turkey's integration."
Noting that Turkey was a very important player for Europe in contending with these problems, Bagis said, in reference to the words of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, "We want to become a member in order not to place an additional burden on Europe but to relieve Europe of some burden."
    Bagis continued his speech saying:
"Turkey's ultimate goal is EU membership. We demand no less or more. We would like our country to become a member to the EU going through the same fair process as the previous candidates. This is the objective of our government. We are determined on the issue of reforms and negotiations."
Reminding that Prime Minister Erdogan went to Brussels in January this year after a 4 year interval and this was followed by a visit by Deniz Baykal, leader of CHP next month and a visit by Abdullah Gul, the President of the Republic of Turkey in March, Bagis stated that in all three visits, particular emphasis had been placed on the issue that Turkey with its government and opposition pursued the membership target pertinaciously.
Bagis stressed that it was important that Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission and Members of the European Commission had declared that they supported Turkey's membership bid and he mentioned in his speech the steps which Turkey had taken in the reform process this year.
Bagis emphasized that they, together with the government and opposition, wanted to introduce the necessary reforms in order for Turkey to have a constitution which can be a source of inspiration for Eurasia and in order to provide people with a quality of life at EU standards.
Stating that within this framework Turkish Trade Law and 30 laws were currently on the agenda of the TGNA, Bagis said that preparations for certain packages of constitutional changes and several projects such as judicial reform and ombudsmanship were on the agenda for a more democratic and more respected Turkey. Bagis also noted that they had a communication strategy work which they intend to conduct with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Bagis also received a group of journalists from EU countries and then attended the reception given by Marc Pierini, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey on the occasion of Europe Day.
