EGEMEN BAGIS SUPPORTS IZMIR’S CANDIDACY FOR EXPO 2020

During his visit to Brussels on the occasion of the Intergovernmental Accession Conference for the opening of Chapter 22 ,  Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attended, along with Minister of Development Cevdet Yılmaz, the dinner hosted by the General Secretariat of Expo 2020 İzmir and  the press conference as regards İzmir's candidacy to host EXPO 2020.

In his statement to the press, Minister Bagis said that İzmir, as an intercultural crossroad and the centre of tolerance, was a perfect candidate for the construction of peaceful relations among civilizations.

Reminding that İzmir adopted for its EXPO 2020 candidacy the theme “Health for All”, which is the Millennium Development Goal of the UN,  Minister Bagis pointed out the leading position of İzmir and Aegian Region in health care throughout the history. Referring to the Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle’s famous saying to Alexander the Great “If you do not see Smyrna, you remain lacking”, Bagis expressed his hope for all visitors to the city to should look from that perspective.
