WE CELEBRATE ISTANBUL’S BECOMING THE CAPITAL OF TECHNOLOGY

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech in the joint opening ceremony of the CeBIT Bilişim Eurasia and BIT Synergy Summit, organized in Istanbul WOW Congress Centre. In his speech, Bagis said: “We celebrate and appraise Istanbul’s becoming the capital of technology”
Noting that in the 21st century, everybody should act in line with the rapid changes in technology, think digitally and provide results rapidly, Bagis added: "In other words, we should benefit from all advantages of the technology. It is certain that we should think digitally. We should utilise all the opportunities. However, we should eventually provide solutions with the same enthusiasm, effort and endeavour.”
Egemen Bagis declared that Istanbul could unite the old and the new, the modern and the contemporary and accordingly, he emphasized that it was very meaningful to experience such kind of a process in Istanbul.
Stating that finding solutions in Istanbul to the problems of the world through technology should be the common aim of everybody and he added:
"When the technology giants and the leading companies are considered, we see that they can look further from the shoulders of a giant like Istanbul.   Istanbul notably began to become a centre of technology. With this forward-looking perspective, Istanbul proves to be a distinct city. We witness many similar exhibitions and organizations around the world, but the most assertive ones are in Istanbul. Technology develops rapidly and we experience the effects of this in many fields. Some want to turn social media into a disinformation channel and platform. Unfortunately, terrorism is committed not only by the people with guns but also by social media terrorists. Therefore, international cooperation is very important. Adopting laws in line with the EU standards is extremely important for the protection of personal data and accordingly, steps in this regard will be taken within the scope of the democratisation package."
