TURKEY UNDERGOES AGAIN A SIGNIFICANT REFORM PROCESS

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis made a speech at the opening ceremony of the “Raising Awareness on the Procedures of the Individual Application in the Area of Human Rights Project”, which was held in Rixos Hotel, Ankara.

Minister Bagis started by saying that he wished that the Project, implemented by the Ministry for European Union Affairs in cooperation with the Constitutional Court, Ombudsman Institution, Human Rights Institution of Turkey and Ministry of Justice, with the support of the British Embassy, would help citizens to use the ways of seeking justice most effectively in human rights cases.

Minister Bagis, referring to the democratization package announced yesterday by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that Turkey started again a significant reform process.

Stating that Turkey made reforms not for hoodwinking the EU, but because her citizens deserved it, Minister Bagis said “Now upon the principle of "diamond cut diamond”, Turkey is in a process where we are seeking means to tackle democratic problems with more democracy. The democratization package will act almost as a sledgehammer which will attack the status quo statism and solidify the formula “state for people, not people for state”

Minister Bagis also added “As our Prime Minister emphasized yesterday, this package is not the first and will not be the last, because the need for reform will never end. The only thing does not change, is the change itself. Communities always deserve and demand more as a matter of course and states should always show their determination to realize it.”
