MINISTER FOR EU AFFAIRS EGEMEN BAGIS RECEIVED MICHAEL LEIGH, DIRECTOR GENERAL FOR ENLARGEMENT IN THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis received Michael Leıgh, Director General for Enlargement in the European Commission and his delegation. Christophe Filori, Head of Unit Turkey of Directorate General for Enlargement in the European Commission and Marc Pierini, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey also attended the meeting.
Bagis declared after the meeting that they planned to take important steps towards Turkey's membership to the EU starting from the amendment of the Constitution in cooperation with the opposition parties after the election.
Indicating that they had discussed the latest developments regarding Turkey's negotiation process with the EU and exchanged views on the chapters expected to be opened in the forthcoming period, Bagis said: "We are planning to take important steps towards Turkey's membership to the EU starting from the amendment of the Constitution in cooperation with the opposition parties after the election."
Leigh, in his declaration, indicated that it had been a very comprehensive and constructive meeting in which the important reforms to be done for Turkey's EU membership were discussed.
Stating that issues relating the Accession Conference to be organised in Brussels in June and the chapters being studied within this framework were also discussed, Leigh said that important steps which will make Turkey's negotiation process with the EU progress, had been taken both in terms of legislation and implementation.
