SIIRT DAYS IN ISTANBUL
The Siirt Days event organised by the Governorship of Siirt under the auspices of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s wife Mrs. Emine Erdogan, was launched at the Feshane International Fair Congress and Culture Center with the motto: “Trilingual Sister City Siirt.”
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis, Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Sahin, Governor of Istanbul Huseyin Avni Mutlu and AK Party Deputy Chairman Numan Kurtulmus participated in the event.
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis made a speech at the opening ceremony and reminded that when AK Party won the elections for the first time, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was elected as an MP from Siirt. Bagis said: “Siirt has become the voice of conscience of the world by making this brave man who was imprisoned for reading a poem that could be found even in textbooks, and who was said that he could not even become a village head, the prime minister. This event has become a turning point in the history of Turkish Democracy.”
Bagis also referred to the Gezi Park incidents and stated that some people plotted against Turkey in Taksim. He said those people managed to achieve in our sister country Egypt what they could not succeed in doing in Taksim. Bagis continued: “In Egypt, the chief of staff appointed by the president imprisoned that president who was the first president elected by his people. The constitution adopted by the votes of citizens was disregarded. However they kept still about all these events.
Bagis reminded the heart-wrenching events in Syria and said: “We all grieved for the infants killed in Syria. If we take a look at the past, we can see what Turkey stated 2,5 years ago. Since the first day Turkey said ‘Don’t let another Halabja, Srebrenica or Sarajova take place in Syria. Let us not give a chance to the bloody minded dictator Assad. Now the world has come around to Turkey’s way of thinking”
Bagis said that the whole world accepted the usage of chemical weapons in Syria, except for bloody minded Assad, North Korea and the CHP leader Kemal Kılıcdaroglu, and stated that not a single member of CHP has condemned Assad until today.
