IZMIR INTERNATIONAL SUMMER CAMP OF INTER PARLIAMENTARY EXCHANGE AND DIALOGUE PROJECT

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis delivered a speech in the opening ceremony of International Summer Camp of Inter-parliamentary Exchange and Dialogue Project, themed Youth, Democracy and Change. In his speech, Bagis underlined that it was very meaningful to organize one of the most important activities of the Project in Izmir, which is an important city in terms of the internalization of democracy.

Bagis said that the Turkish public supported the work carried out during the EU process for harmonization and reform but he added that the support for the EU membership in Turkey was decreasing gradually. Bagis explained his belief that the mentioned Project would contribute to overcome prejudices about Turkey’s membership in EU countries. Emphasizing that Turkey was progressing decisively in its accession process despite all the political obstacles Bagis stated that Turkey was harmonized with the EU, even more than some EU countries and that it would be ready for Membership within a few years with the removal of the blockages.
