UNSC SHOULD BE MORE ACTIVE IN SYRIA, EYGPT AND BLEEDING WOUNDS IN THE WORLD
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to act more actively in Syria, Egypt and bleeding wounds in other parts of the world.
Bagis received the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Kamal Malhotra at the Ministry for EU Affairs.
Making a statement regarding the reception, Bagis stated that Mr. Malhotra who assumed his positions 3 months ago paid a visit of courtesy, and underlined the importance of the UN with regard to the developments in Egypt by saying “The importance of the UN as the most important organization in establishing peace has become more evident.” Furthermore, stating that the oppression faced during dawn prayers and the killing of many people would never be accepted, Minister Bagis expressed that Turkey always stood against the cruel and beside the innocent, as it did in the past. Bagis followed his words as follows:
“It is clear that they want to move Egypt towards a civil war. I want to call on my Egyptian brothers to deal with their problems in sobriety and through democratic means, to spoil the game of those who want to turn the conflict into a civil war in Egypt which is one of the most important countries in the Muslim world, to approach each other with feelings of brotherhood and friendship instead of hostility and to move forward to a brighter future with the leaders whom they have selected. This is what we wish.”
Emphasizing that the UN failed to adopt a certain attitude despite the death of 100 thousand people in Syria, Bagis indicated that there was a conflict of interest among members of the UNSC and thus, the countries overlooked the bleeding wounds in other parts of the world for the sake of their interest. Bagis followed his words as follows:
“If we do not want the same incident to occur in Egypt, let’s call on the permanent members of the UN Security Council through the UN Resident Representative in Turkey to act more actively in Syria, Egypt and bleeding wounds in other parts of the world.
