BAGIS ACCOMPANIES PM ERDOGAN ON HIS VISIT TO THE U.S.

Minister for European Union Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis accompanied Primie Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his official visit to Washington DC.

Minister Bagis on the first day of the visit gave on-air interviews on TRT and other press institutions and made evaluations on the agenda. Minister Bagis, together with the Prime Minister, visited the building site of the Turkish American Society Centre to be constructed in Maryland and attended the ground-breaking ceremony there.

Along with Prime Minister Erdogan’s individual meeting with the US President Barack Obama inter-committee meetings were made and Minister Bagis attended the inter-committee meetings.

Regarding the Prime Minister Erdogan’s visit to Washington Egemen Bagis said that a Turkish leader was treated with such a great respect in the USA for the first time and hoped that the rise of our country would be acknowledged by other countries also.

Bagis said: “Prime Minister Erdogan was welcomed at the White House with a military ceremony. In the long meetings the issues were held in details. Prime Minister Erdogan’s wife Mrs. Emine Erdogan was also welcomed with great respect. The one to one meeting between Obama and Erdogan was held in a very friendly atmosphere. All these filled us with proud. This is the reflection of Turkey’s new position and power as a source of inspiration in its region.”

Egemen Bagis stated that he had been involved either in the preparations stage or actually in almost all high level visits made by Turkish leaders to the USA since 1985 and added: “We witnessed for the first time that a Turkish leader has been received with such a great respect and hospitality.”
