EGEMEN BAGIS IS HOPEFUL ON ISTANBUL'S 2020 OLYMPICS BID
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attended the Istanbul stage of the 2013 Dragon Cup Canoe Competition. In his speech that he made during the ceremony, Bagis implied that Istanbul’s having been selected as the European Capital of Sport was not a coincidence and he added “We hope that it won’t be a coincidence either to host the 2020 Olympics.”
Before the competition held at the Sutluce Imrahor Park in the Golden Horn, Bagis pointed out that the Olympics were one of the best atmospheres to share the friendship and he said it was one of the organizations reflecting the gentlemen’s spirit best and that’s why we want to make this organization in Istanbul, the world capital of tolerance. Expressing that they were decisive in realising an Olympics that the world won’t and can’t forget, Bagis said that to make such organizations in Istanbul would strengthen their hands.
Reminding the Dragon Cup was started with the motto “United in Single Oar” Bagis said that what can be achieved by being united was demonstrated by this kind of competitions through which the team work stands out. Bagis added that the champion of the competition would represent Turkey at the worldwide competition in Thailand.
