EGEMEN BAGIS KICKS OFF THE 8TH ALLGAU-ORIENT PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP RALLY
Kicking off the 8th Allgau-Orient peace and friendship rally, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said to the athletes, “Do not forget that the most challenging racecourse is that of peace.”
In his speech on the occasion of the opening of the event, indicating that he was happy that such an important event was held in Istanbul, Minister for EU Affairs Bagis said, “We are extremely pleased to be with you here at the most important and historical point of the 10.000 kilometre racecourse. Currently, we are going through a very delicate period as well. Do not forget that the most challenging racecourse is that of peace. Turkey is also advancing rapidly on the path of national unity and brotherhood.”
Noting that Turkey was in the process of resolving its problems one by one under the leadership of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Bagis said, “Now we are in the process of getting rid of the scourge of terrorism that been bleeding this country dry for forty years.” Bagis also stated that certain opposition circles were bothered about the end of terrorism and gains slipping away from their hands and therefore there were attempts to derail the peace process.
After the speeches, Bagis kicked off the “Peace and Friendship Rally” which is being held with the participation of 280 race cars from 20 countries. Nearly 600 rally drivers consisting of 111 teams who have started out from Germany on 28 April, after touring various provinces such as Kocaeli, Tokat, Ordu, Corum and Agri after Istanbul, will depart from Iskenderun to the Port of Haifa of Israel.
