BAGIS PARTICIPATES IN THE APRIL 23RD NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CHILDREN’S DAY ACTIVITIES
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attended the ceremony held in Istanbul, Ihsan Serif Primary School within the scope of the April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
In his speech during the ceremony Bagis said:
“Today is also my birthday, the reason of why my name is Egemen(which means sovereignty). But which makes me really excited about today is that for the last 11 years, 23rd April has been celebrated with great enthusiasm, and it is qualified as a real national sovereignty. Those who established the Republic 93 years ago, may rest in peace, first Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and all his friends, collaborated for unity and solidarity of this country. They were combatting in Canakkale without any discrimination. All of our citizens establishing the Turkish Republic with Turk, Kurd, Cherkes, Laz, Bosniak, Christian and Jewish, martyrized with their ethnic identities and cultures.
Telling that they were going through a sensitive process, Bagis described this process as the refreshment of the philosophy and the spirit of the Republic’s establishment. Bagis said that the reconciliation process is the process to ensure fair treatment of all citizens, as it was foreseen by the founders of the Republic.
