BAGIS SAYS “LET’S FIND COMMON GROUNDS” TO STUDENTS

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis participated in the opening ceremony of the “Foreign Policy Summer School” held by Bilgi University Platform for Global Challenges and shared his political experiences with students and informed them about Turkey’s EU accession process.

Bagis stated, “There are different lifestyles and different ideas here. What we are trying to do is to show that differences within the most western country of the east and the most eastern country of the west can live together. You will make close friends during these two weeks. Above all, we expect you to keep in touch with each other and with us. To find a common ground, we can exchange ideas on our country’s pathway to attain a much brighter future.”

Mentioning Turkey’s EU accession process and noting the importance of achieving the EU standards, Bagis said, “We must meet the EU standards regarding various issues from income per capita to freedom of expression, from food hygiene standards to the safety of our children’s toys. We don’t need EU countries, but we need their principles. We are putting these principles into practice step by step.”
