EGEMEN BAGIS AWARDED AS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MINISTER AND POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR 2012

Granted with “the most successful politician of the year” award, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said: “I feel really proud that I have received The Politician of the Year award on such a significant day, 27 May.

Speaking at the award ceremony called “KARVAK 2011 The People of the Year” which was held by the Black Sea Education, Culture and Environment Protection Association in Istanbul, Bagis said: “Unfortunately, our democracy was damaged because of the coup d’état  on 27 May.  I commemorate all of our democracy martyrs, especially Mr. Adnan Menderes with gratitude”. Stating that democracy had become much stronger in Turkey, Bagis added:

“Today, 52 years after 27 May which the democracy and our country suffered from, we have witnessed an event that the deceased master Necip Fazil mentioned about. He had said: “If our stadiums were filled by those who struggle for a cause rather than the audiences, then it would be the independence day of the country”... Today, the largest stadium of Turkey, Telecom Arena, was jam-packed due to AK Party Istanbul Provincial Congress. That is to say, Turkey is going forward in the right direction. The independence days that the master mentioned about, the days when Turkey will democratize, prosper and become transparent are getting closer. We say “Don’t stop and continue to make reforms” for Turkey which has even exceeded the EU standards and has reached the level of contemporary civilizations.”

Also granted with “The Most Successful Minister of the Year” award by the Young Democrats Association, Bagis indicated that the young people had long been stuck among political axes and it was very meaningful that he was awarded by an association whose name includes the words of both “young” and “democrat”. Bagis said: “We will resolve the problems of Turkey one by one with the help of the young representing a great majority of Turkey.”
