LIFELONG LEARNING AND YOUTH IN ACTION PROGRAMMES INTRODUCED

Introductory meeting for Lifelong Learning and Youth in Action Programmes was held in Istanbul with the participation of Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, Egemen Bagis.

In his speech at the meeting, Bagis said that they wished more citizens would benefit from such opportunities and could get to know different cultures, thus contributing to their career and personal development.

Stating that Turkish National Agency organized two main programmes, namely Lifelong Learning and Youth in Action, Bagis said that the former included Erasmus, Comenius, Leonardo da Vinci and Grundtvig programmes which the educational institutions were quite familiar with. Also indicating that Youth in Action Programme covered several sub-activities, Minister Bagis said that the citizens, most of whom were young people eligible for training, went to European countries for periods ranging from one week to one year, took part in educational and youth activities there and returned to Turkey with a higher level of knowledge and experience.

Remarking that 55 thousand Turkish citizens would be sent to EU member states for training this year, Bagis said about 65% of them would be financed by EU funds and about 40% by our national funds.

In the meeting, Musa Ceylan, Head of the Center for European Union Education and Youth Programmes (Turkish National Agency) informed the participants about European Union Education and Youth Programmes.
