EGEMEN BAGIS WISHES SUCCESS TO CAN BONOMO

Receiving Can Bonomo who will represent Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that Bonomo would be the eye, ear and voice of Turkey at Eurovision. 

At the press meeting held after having received Bonomo at the Ortakoy Office of the Ministry for EU Affairs, Minister Bagis said:

“He will convey the messages of our country. As you know Eurovision is one of the most deep-rooted and institutionalized contests of Europe. Turkey is being represented with its art, music and messages there for years. Sertab Erener made a great success of which we were all very proud. I believe with all my heart that Can will very successfully represent our country. I feel extremely pleased to meet him, watch his video together which comes out today and get to know him closely. I wish him success in the presence of you. I told him that as the Ministry for EU Affairs, we would give him every kind of support that he needs during his duty of representing Turkey. I would like to reiterate this before all of you. For us, Can is a natural member of our EU negotiation team from now on because he will represent our country in European platforms and convey the messages of Turkey. For this reason we declare him as the honorary ambassador. I will put the pin of the Ministry of EU Affairs on him for the reason of being the honorary ambassador. Let’s do it in the presence of you. I hope that this pin will bring him luck.”

Minister Bagis replied the questions at the end of the press meeting. Upon a question about Armenia’s not participating in the contest, Bagis said “We would prefer Armenia to withdraw from Nagorno-Karabakh instead of the Eurovision.”
