EGEMEN BAGIS, GUEST OF BUTTERFLY EFFECT

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis was a quest of the TV programme called "Butterfly Effect", which is started to be broadcast on Skytürk 360 TV. This TV program is prepared by the think tank, Platform for Global Challenges whose head is Egemen Bagis, and which was formed with the contributions of Istanbul Bilgi University.

Bagis commented on the issues in the agenda and answered the questions:

Upon a question on the on-going process in France regarding the events of 1915, Bagis said that the bill of France was a draft of political exploitation purely focused on limiting the freedom of expression.  Bagis stated wholeheartedly that the Constitutional Council of France would annul the mentioned bill once convinced that this bill was against the values of the French Revolution, the French Constitution and the values of the EU.

Evaluating the process of Arab Spring, Bagis said that the events in this region were the start of a process whose effect would last long.  Underlining that some changes had occurred in Tunisia, Egypt and in Libya, Bagis stated that the process had not been completed yet. Bagis also added:

"With regard to the Arab Spring, one of the most challenging issues to be discussed in the think tanks in the near future will be the structure of Israel because the world, especially the western countries governed with democracy wish the national will, the demands of the nation, namely, democracy to be superior. Moreover, they also wish that people were in harmony with the government which has always hurt and insulted them, and scorned their values.  In other words, there is a conflict here. Either Israel will enter in a changing process to prove that it is respectful to the values of its people– time will show whether this can be achieved by Netanyahu, and Lieberman couple - or the Middle East will continue to be in the throes of structuring and quest. I believe that in the forthcoming period, the most important topic of the Arab spring   will be the question on whether the Israel will learn to be respectful to the values of the people of that region or not."
