EGEMEN BAGIS MEETS WITH THE LOCAL MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES IN SANLIURFA

The seventh regional informative seminar of the project titled “Turkish Local Media on the EU Path” ,which is organized by the Ministry for EU Affairs and backed up by the British Embassy in Ankara, was held in Sanlıurfa under the auspices of Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis. 

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the seminar, Bagis said that Turkey’s EU membership gave a golden opportunity for the world peace like a torch which would be lit and never put out. Stating that several nations, religions and cultures had lived in peace and quiet in Sanlıurfa throughout the history, Egemen Bagis said: “That’s why, we are forwarding the message of Sanlıurfa to Europe through the EU accession process and reminding the founding principles of the European Union to the Europeans once and again”.

During the seminar which lasted for two days with the participation of the local media representatives from the provinces, namely Sanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Hakkari, Kilis, Mardin and Sırnak, the participants kept informed about Turkey’s EU accession process, the effects of the relevant efforts in this process on our daily lives and projects and programs intended for the media. Experts from the EU member states also took part in the seminar and the participants were provided with useful information which would ensure them to follow the EU accession process more consciously and closely.
