30. ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attended the reception in Istanbul hosted by the Servet Dorak, Consul General at Consulate General of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), on the occasion of the TRNC’s 30th anniversary of foundation.

Reminding that the TRNC had declared its independence 30 years ago following a courageous decision, Bagis said that the TRNC had become a “Brother Land” for Turkey rather than an “Infantland”.

“Our destiny, our happiness, our peace and our sadness has always been one. No one should expect us to neither abandon Cyprus for the EU nor the EU for Cyprus. We are determined to pursue our national cause on both issues to the very end” said he.

Pointing out Turkey’s commitment on a solution based on political relationships with a superordinate identity to be formed by the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern

Cyprus and TRNC together, Minister Bagis said “When both sides approach and agree on a solution, Turkey will only support it. However I want to stress that lack of a solution doesn’t mean in any way that the TRNC or our brothers on the island will be left alone. Turkey has never left the TRNC alone so far and it will never leave it alone henceforth. Turkey will always stand by the TRNC.”

Bagis said that the fate of TRNC was as important as those of Konya, Kütahya or Kayseri stating that in a situation where TRNC was not in safe, Turkey couldn’t feel safe either and where TRNC felt uncomfortable, Turkey couldn’t sleep a wink.

Minister Bagis also added “Turkey will never give up even a single hand span of Cyprus in any way, any case and any condition. Everybody should know that such offers will be responded most severely. TRNC is the trust of our ancestors Mehmed the Conqueror, Fatin Rüştü, Menderes and Erbakan”.

Bağış, "Bizim kaderimiz, mutluluğumuz, huzurumuz, keyfimiz, hüznümüz hep bir oldu. Hiç kimse, AB için Kuzey Kıbrıs'tan, Kuzey Kıbrıs için de AB'den vazgeçmemizi beklemesin. Çünkü iki konuda da haklı davamızı sonuna kadar yürütme konusunda kararlıyız" diye konuştu.

Adada, KKTC ile Güney Kıbrıs Rum Yönetimi'nin birlikte oluşturacakları bir üst kimlikle siyasi ilişkilere dayalı bir çözüm konusunda Türkiye'nin kararlılığına vurgu yapan Bağış, şöyle devam etti:

"Çözüme iki taraf da uzlaşıp yaklaştığı zaman, Türkiye buna sadece destek verecektir. Ama çözümsüzlük, hiçbir şekilde KKTC'nin ya da adadaki kardeşlerin yalnız bırakılacağı anlamını taşımayacağını vurgulamak istiyorum. Türkiye bugüne kadar Kuzey Kıbrıs'ı hiçbir zaman yalnız bırakmamıştır, bundan sonra da bırakmayacaktır, Türkiye, her zaman KKTC'nin yanında olacak."

Bağış, KKTC'nin güvende olmadığı bir ortamda Türkiye'nin de kendini güvende hissedemeyeceğini, KKTC'nin rahatsız olduğu bir ortamda Türkiye'nin gözüne uyku girmeyeceğini belirterek, KKTC'nin kaderinin, Konya, Kayseri, Kütahya kadar önemli olduğunu kaydetti.

Bakan Bağış, "Türkiye, Kıbrıs'ın tek bir karışından hiçbir şekil, şart ve surette vazgeçmeyecektir. Bu tekliflere de en ağır şekilde cevap vereceği bilinmelidir. KKTC, bize Fatih Sultan Mehmet'lerin, Fatin Rüştü'lerin, Menderes'lerin ve Erbakan'ların emanetidir" dedi.
