BAĞIŞ, MEETS THE TURKISH SOCIETY INVIENNA
VIENNA (Anatolian News Agency - Ali H. Yurtsever) - AK Party Istanbul Representative Egemen Bagis attended a Ramadan dinner organized by a group of Turkish societies in Vienna. Answering a question about the debates on reactionary tendencies in Turkey Bagis said "Resorting to terrorism for ideas is not reaction but perversion."
Bagis stated that the main confusion in the debates about Islamic reversion in Turkey is the ambiguity in the definition of the word, "Maybe first we should come to an agreement about the definition of reversion" he said.
"If those that complain about reversionary tendencies mean those that resort to force and murder people to impose their ideas, those terrorists will have to face us and AKP before anyone else. I personally think that it is not right to call these terrorist activities reversions. Such activities are perversions" Bagis added.
Referring to the Ramadan dinner that he attended organized by 9 Turkish religious communities in Vienna Bagis said:
"I think it is wrong to call what we do reversion; to come together during the Ramadan for a community dinner. This is a requisite of our traditions and beliefs."
Reminding that reversion is defined as a "tendency to go backwards" in the dictionaries Bagis said:
"In such a period that the EU negotiations has started and Turkey has become an inspiration for democracy, human rights and free market economy for other nations in its geography, there is no way of going back for Turkey as a secular, democratic and a social state, but only onwards.""DEBATE ON RELIGION HAS BECOME A LIFE SAVER FOR THE TURKISH LEFT "
Bagis stated that this ambigious word reversion has become like a life buoy for the Turkish left for the last 30 years. "Turkish left disturbs and abuses the society with such debates" he said.
"Because of such an abuse the Turkish left has eventually lost the favor and the support of the society and the concept that they thought to be a life buoy did not save them but made them loose credit on the contrary."
Bagis stated that he feels proud of the Turkish army and said "Turkish people have a distinctive way of seeing their army when compared to other nations. There is not one other nation that addresses its army as the house of the prophet. There is not one other nation that calls its soldiers with the name of the prophet as well. This is why our army is one of the most trusted institutions in Turkey."
